Professional Edition V5.0
ExpSAFE Blast Calculator Pro is a Level 1’ mobile engineering tool that has been developed to enable blast wave assessments to be conducted in support of quick-scan safety assessments. Predictions cover blast effects resulting from an explosion and that from a vessel rupture containing gas and/or liquid. Overpressure calculations were informally validated against US Army Technical Manual 5-855-1 ‘Fundamentals for protective design for conventional weapons’ (CONWEP). CONWEP is an unclassified international recognised modelling tool for calculating explosion effects and widely used in the explosive safety community. The primary reference source for formulae used in this app was the International Ammunition Technical Guides (IATG) 01.80: Formulae for Ammunition Management (with UNODA permission). Of note is the UNODA project ‘UN SaferGuard’. Their website is an excellent source of technical information and offers a wide range of online complimentary tools relating to ammunition safety. The site introduces and summaries scientifically proven and sound formulae that may be used to support the decision-making and risk management processes.
FEATURES OF THIS VERSION
This professional edition provides the following functionality:
- Ability to determine the blast effective yield based on Net Explosive Quantity and the TNT equivalence assigned to the type of explosives being consideration.
- Calculate the Blast Scaling factor based on the effective yield of explosives and the distance between the detonation and point of interest.
- View a range of predicted hemisphere blast wave characteristics such as overpressure and impulse. Also included is the ability to toggle between pressure units Pascals and PSI when viewing blast parameters.
- Displays a brief summary of open source potential injury and damage thresholds linked to air blast overpressure.
- Displays selected injury or damage circles around user coordinates for a potential explosive site linked to Apple Maps imagery.
- Estimate the distance aligned to the 140 dB Sound Pressure Level (SPL) from the point of detonation.
- Ability to toggle between imperial and metric units for input parameters.
